Sony VP Speaks 2 weeks into Crisis

Kaz Hirai has made a point to speak to the press about Sony’s jaw-dropping fuck up and their remarkable semi-indifference since. More importantly he, as the voice of Sony on this matter, has come forth to extend the intentions of the company in its attempt to “make good” on the mistakes thus far. But first, we need to cover why this is such a big deal in light of Sony’s silence on the matter until about a week ago, when they confessed that almost everything… Continue reading →

PSN Hack: Hacker CC victim in Australia? Government snaps in action!

Five-hundred thousand pounds is nothing to sneeze at and given that Sony already has numbers like that climbing upward elsewhere in the world with the recent Class Action Suit in California, we are now greeted by the first potential ding to a customer victimized by the hack in Australia. Two grand was eaten up by the hackers as a man learned he had paid for some interesting things without his knowing and the uncomfortable proximity to Sony’s PSN breach seems too good to be a… Continue reading →

Penny-Arcade: Making light and money of your pain?

Hey guys! Remember THIS comic? Penny-Arcade suspects you do because they have a shirt up for preorder for the low price of $17.99 and perhaps a bitten lip. By lip, I mean YOURS (PS3 owners). And by bite, I mean HARD. I adore the PA guys. Met ‘em in person twice and the disappointment that they look NOTHING like their comic counterparts has haunted me ever since. Gah. In a weird way it made me respect them more because their online personas are so far… Continue reading →

Sony: Making things right amidst disaster? Uh… no.

Personally, I couldn’t trust Sony less at this point. They fucked up in a way that doesn’t heal easy, if ever. You may note some cynicism on my part here, but here’s the skeezy per Kotaku. Kotaku found indications of roughly 2.2 million user accounts have their contents up for sale. There’s a lot of skepticism about this because of the implication that the CVV2 codes come in tow and that’s both surprisingly unlikely and probably bullshit. It’s not a shining light, but silver linings… Continue reading →

Sony Update: Firmware, it’s happening. Again. Also things. And Hotz.

So your identities could be at risk, what’s the big deal right? Sigh. Here’s the Sony thing for the day. Between violent bouts of shitting themselves inside out, Sony gave their PR puppet the news that they would be distributing a firmware package to fill in holes and lead their Network into a brighter tomorrow. Just don’t mind that constant toilet flushing noise. That’s just the price of their stock dipping as investors slip through the drain. I’d go talk smack on their blog (Pfft,… Continue reading →

VG Cats: OMG they makes comics now?!

If any of you are familiar with Scott Ramsoomair’s VG Cats comic, you’ll agree… updates are practically newsworthy. It has become a consistent bit of humor just citing his unpredictable, sporadic rates of updating. Anyway, this recent one reacts to the farce surrounding Sony’s security and is delightful. I adore VG Cats and am remarkably fond of Ramsoomair’s spastic art style and whimsically perverse antics he calls humor. You should be too. Just… be patient for updates. And consult his archive a lot.

Sony: Paying the piper

Stuff on Sony is popping up so fast I can’t even find time to comment on all the other shit going on in the world. Two things: 1) The first Class Action lawsuit has been filed against Sony. Filed in California, the Lawsuit addresses the breach and theft of data as well as the length of time Sony took to inform customers of a security breach. 2) Sony is likely to be slammed with over £500k in fines from the results of the recent breach… Continue reading →

Sony: Mistakes have a price, this one measures $24 Billion(?!)

A Plea for Playstation – watch more funny videos (Funny or Die shows the true sadness inflicted on society by Sony taking down the network.) Sony posted a FAQ, so please take their advice and go FAQ yourselves. I mean, it only what, ten days late? Something like that. Maybe a week. It’s just number guys, it’s not like you have to keep your identities ALL THE TIME. Right? Forbes did some math that Kotaku were too aghast not to share. You read right. $24… Continue reading →

The calm before the Spam-storm and rampant Identity Theft

Reminder to all: Change your passwords to everything. Just because you still can. Sony users are already bracing for the inevitable, as Sony slumps into the march of shame as they contemplate how to (primarily) save themselves, “help” their customers, not get sued/prosecuted into the ground for withholding the fact that personal user information was plucked out of their system along with (possibly) credit card information. Sony has consistently said it “wasn’t aware” of how far down shit creek their boat had floated, but given… Continue reading →

Sony: You are not safe, Change Passwords ASAP!

Well, thanks Sony. Nine days into this debacle and it happens I was right: Sony was hiding the bad news. They sat on it trying to spin it in a way that didn’t sound like “You’ll probably be fucked to death by people who took your shit and we didn’t want to tell you because you might be upset by the news.” As it happens, I am. I am VERY upset. Sony “recommends” you change your password as soon as the Network is online, they… Continue reading →
