Nintendo: Shares dip 5% after TGS Presentation

At Tokyo Game Show yesterday, Nintendo unveiled some videos of Mario Kart 7, Super Mario 3Dland, Skyward Sword and Mario Tennis as well as some jibber jabber about upcoming releases. Oh and a new color for the 3DS. So basically, they unveiled the same shit they’ve been churning out forever (albeit a gimmick-laden Zelda designed with the Wii in mind) with nothing to keep casual folks who bought into Nintendo products onboard and nothing new to win back core consumers who Nintendo pushed aside in… Continue reading →

Nintendo: Wii-U impotency disappoints women all over the world!

It tingles to be right sometimes. Not to pat myself on the back or anything, but I feel this confirms my distinct suspicion that the Wii-U was clearly an untested, unapproved prototype that Nintendo left in mothballs during the financial reign of the Wii and DS. So, just as Nintendo stopped developing games with any enthusiasm they also decided to stop working on a true successor console. Which is why the Wii-U seems so delightfully odd and why, according to an unnamed third party developer… Continue reading →

Nintendo: Europe’s Wii is getting neutered for Christmas

Oh, Europe! You’re so wacky! Nintendo UK has apparently let loose the fact that they intend to release an even CHEAPER version of the already cheap Wii by gutting components and features. Given that the thing was already incapable of playing DVDs and being anything aside from a Wii seemed like an already significant detriment to the console, but now they’re tearing out all elements of backwards compatibility. To embellish this further: Your Gamecube games will not play on this Wii, nor will your memory… Continue reading →

Nintendo: Apparently, the price cut didn’t help…

Apparently after the price cut on the 3DS actually happened, Nintendo stock dropped 20%, which is… scary. Hearing Nintendo’s many vocal responses to these issues is somewhat amusing because the company now acts like a stranger in a strange land since making motion controlled gaming an unfortunate part of all our lives and now that they can’t lean on the Wii for support, they’re frantically firing shots in the dark and the only targets they hit were friendly. Or rather they shot themselves. In the… Continue reading →

Nintendo: 3DS takes some off the top… sorta.

It’s fun to watch a multi-national corporation freak the fuck out after they do something remarkably stupid. Like abandon rational pricing in a global economic depression and only reconsider as they watch their stock price dive. The 3DS released at a staggering cost after Nintendo had long since earned a wealthy, niche spot as the console meant to be easiest on the human wallet and good with kids. While the 3DS had some praise by early adopters as a nice upgrade from the DS/DSi versions,… Continue reading →

Throne of Zelda?

That’s link. On the Games of Thrones throne. I felt obligated to do this since I stand at kind of on the fence with Legend of Zelda (I suck at most of them) and The Song of Fire & Ice series (AKA Game of Thrones, I watched the show, but I don’t read the books… yet). However, I know my readers and associates will appreciate the combination, if not sport a blood spurt from their foreheads in joy/angst. Let the spurting commence, the shirt is… Continue reading →

Nintendo: Wii U causes stock prices to dive

5% Nintendo’s stock dipped after the “mixed” reception of the Wii U console unveiled at E3 and slated for release next year. I’m not a Nintendo loyalist by any measure cutting at my wrists, but then I didn’t get an N64 until Conker’s Fur Day came out, so I don’t have the same attachment to the brand that some people might. Clearly, those people held Nintendo stock and decided to withdraw their financial support from the company before leaping from a high building and into… Continue reading →

Nintendo drowning, inflates Wii 2 life raft to appear stable

Nintendo at large has enjoyed exclusive dominion over budget gaming and motion controls for so long, it’s a little weird to see them get their shins hacked at in almost the exact way analysts were predicting since they hadn’t trotted out an heir to the Wii. Nintendo reported some strong losses this year. Joystiq accurately indicates that the smart money is on Nintendo desperately throwing out distractions from its losses despite decent 3DS sales and intentionally concealing sales numbers from the market at large. Gotta… Continue reading →

Nintendo 3DS: Mario is missing? Who cares? GAMES are missing!

Not content in merely pummeling Sony, I feel I should share some grief with the other “huge” guy in Japan… So the 3DS launch in the rest of the world is semi-imminent. Well, that’s at least important to those rich suckers brave pioneers who feel it is their duty to purchase an overpriced Nintendo widget first thing out of the gate. $250 later they’ll come out with a bigger one for $200 by the end of the year so… Have fun, I guess. I think… Continue reading →
