Playfire: A virtual dickwaving competition for the digital age!
Playfire is a swanky social medium for gamers that doubles as a means of cross platform competition that allows you to post all of your various achievements from your Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and Steam accounts. Naturally, you may also track friends who do the same.
I like it a lot. It’s fun and it allows more friends to come to the table to brag about totally intangible rewards on different platforms. It also encourages commentary and updates as kind of a games-only Facebook-ish program.
In reality, it probably benefits developers and publishers more than gamers per se, because all this tracking inevitably funnels back into the web for someone to accumulate numbers and general gamer data back to the powers that be. That’s not to say that it’s any less useful for gamers who are (like me) achievement whores, trophy freaks and just generally wavers of their virtual weiners. Obviously, going to a place like this puts me in my place because I’m wayyyyyy behind a lot of people who are truly dedicated to this art of fucking around in games to set off achievements, but this site gives me a goal to work towards and tracks my progress for everyone to see!
I really like this and encourage most everyone to give it a whirl. It’s free and it builds a vastly necessary bridge between PC users and consoles users so we can all be filthy gamer whores together.
